How League Recognition Works
Cannabis League recognition is editorial, evidence-based, and independent. This page explains the principles that guide every evaluation, the criteria used for each Founding Season launch category, and the important limitations that apply to all League honors.
What Every Recognition Reflects
These six principles apply to every award category, every season, without exception.
Editorially Independent
Recognition decisions are made by the League editorial desk. No brand, investor, or advertiser has a vote or a veto.
Based on Documented Public Evidence
Every recognition claim must be traceable to publicly available, verifiable information. Unverified assertions are not used.
Supported by Visible Sources
When a recipient is announced, an editorial rationale and visible source citations will accompany the recognition.
Not Available for Purchase
Recognition cannot be purchased, sponsored, or influenced by paid advertising. Sponsorship cannot determine or guarantee recognition.
Limited by Markets and Information Reviewed
The League desk can only evaluate what it has reviewed. Recognitions reflect the markets and information available at the time of the evaluation period.
Subject to Final Owner Approval
All recognition is subject to final approval by the League owner before any public announcement.
Brand of the Year
The League evaluates brands across five evidence areas. No numerical weights are assigned to these areas. The desk weighs the totality of documented public evidence rather than applying a scoring formula.
- 1
Product and cultivation consistency
Evidence of consistent quality across documented batches or publicly available reports.
- 2
Genetics or product innovation
Documented contributions to genetics, process, or product development that advance the category.
- 3
Cultural and industry influence
Verifiable evidence of influence on industry trends, retail behavior, or public cannabis culture.
- 4
Transparency and available public information
The degree to which the brand makes accurate, verifiable information publicly accessible.
- 5
Founding Season relevance
Relevance to the League's Founding Season scope, markets, and evidence base.
Strain of the Year
The League evaluates strains across five evidence areas. No numerical weights are assigned. Potency figures alone are not sufficient basis for recognition.
- 1
Confirmed breeder or origin information
The cultivar can be traced to a credible, publicly stated origin or breeding attribution.
- 2
Distinctive documented characteristics
The strain has distinctive and documented sensory, chemical, or structural characteristics supported by credible reporting.
- 3
Cultural relevance and market influence
Evidence of meaningful impact on cannabis culture, retail menus, or breeding practices.
- 4
Consistency across credible reporting
Characteristics are described consistently across multiple independent, credible sources.
- 5
Founding Season relevance
Relevance to the League's Founding Season scope, markets, and evidence base.
What Recognition Is Not
Cannabis League recognition is an editorial opinion based on publicly available information reviewed at a point in time. It has important limitations that all readers should understand.
Cannabis League recognition is not laboratory testing, medical evaluation, or regulatory approval.
Recognition is not a product-safety certification and does not guarantee product quality, potency, or consistency.
Relevant business relationships between the League and any recognized party will be disclosed alongside the recognition.
Sponsorship cannot purchase or determine recognition. Advertising relationships are separate from editorial decisions.
The League desk can only evaluate information it has reviewed. Omission of a brand or strain does not constitute a negative judgment.
Founding Season Selections Underway
Brand of the Year and Strain of the Year are currently under evidence review. Selections will be announced once the process is complete and the recipient has received final owner approval.
